Last chance this weekend! It’s time to say good bye to our beloved summer exhibitions. The Human Perspective Poster Exhibition showcases the best from the poster competition celebrating 90th anniversaries of Paimio Sanatorium and Grafia. Participants were invited to interpret Alvar and Aino Aalto’s vision of man’s relationship with his environment, architecture and design. The competition was received with tremendous enthusiasm both in Finland and abroad. The participants were invited to explore Aino and Alvar Aalto’s vision of the human relationship with the environment, architecture, and design. All together 444 entries were submitted, best of them are now being exhibited in Paimio Sanatorium for the last weekend. Our other summer exhibition Filaments of Image and Space reflects the multi-layered and multi-threaded heritage of contemporary art. The works in the exhibition have elements that come from the history of abstract art, which once also inspired Alvar Aalto. Curator Kari Kenetti invited ten top of the line artists to the exhibition, each of whom has been given their own room/space. This allows the entire exhibition to be perceived as a series of individual showcases. Welcome to enjoy our popular summer exhibitions on their closing weekend! “At the core of Alvar and Aino Aalto’s design ethos lies a curiosity in our shared humanity. That human perspective permeates every aspect of the Sanatorium, down to the design of every door knob, the communal spaces, and the angle sunlight filters into your room. The Aaltos wanted to use architecture to bring nature and humanity closer to each other, and closer to ourselves. We continue their work at the Sanatorium by creating a place for regeneration for our times. A place to look for and find answers. A place for new kinds of wisdom to emerge, for strong ties and sharing our experiences and knowledge. We can’t say it any better than the Aaltos: this is a place for breathing, again.” Mirkku Kullberg, CEO of Paimio Sanatorium Foundation Pic: Ola Kolehmainen olakolehmainen #paimionparantola #paimiosanatorium #alvaraalto #ainoaalto #alvaraaltofoundation #aalto2museum #functionalism #modernism #design #architecture #visitpaimio #visitturku #spiritofpaimio
